Major Financial Institution - End of Life Infrastructure Replacement

Client: Confidential

Project Value: $70 million

Completed: 2021

This Data Centre managed a high proportion of Australia’s financial transaction on a daily basis and maintaining uptime was essential however the facility which was initially constructed around 2007 was serviced by plant and equipment that had reached the end of its serviceable lifespan. GIDDIS were engaged to provide Project Director services to this extremely high risk project. A team was assembled and a design developed that involved the replacement of the entire electrical system and cooling system with modern low PUE systems. This replacement was undertaken on the live facility without impact to the existing data centre environment thanks to a dedicated team and strict Change Management governance.  The facility also benefited in a reduction in PUE from low 2 to around 1.3 following the upgrade.

The project also delivered additional high density data halls, office space, blast walls and security upgrades.

GIDDIS’s services included:

  • Project Director Role and Client Representative

  • Project Strategy & Delivery Model development

  • Risk Management

  • Design coordination and consultant management

  • Procurement of long lead equipment

  • Procurement and Engagement of a Main Contractor

  • Construction supervision, monitor and reporting
